I never thought I could successfully grow zinnias in my southeast Texas garden, but I so enjoy the shape and color of them that I couldn’t resist trying. Although you can purchase seed packets from just about any online seller, I chose to buy locally. I was surprised to discover they germinated in about two weeks, thrive very nicely in the hot Texas sun, and can be planted as early as March. I was amazed how very tall the giant variety of zinnia seed I purchase was – approximately 3 to 4 feet in height! And, of course, the bees, butterflies, beneficial insects and hummingbirds love the ready supply of nectar.
