About 11 pm a Montgomery County Deputy was on the dead-end of Loop 494 in New Caney working on reports. He had his computer in his lap. He looked up and saw a vehicle coming at hit. At first, he thought it was another deputy since it was a dead-end road. However, the vehicle increased speed and slammed into him almost headon before being deflected off and hit the guardrail. The impact set the deputy’s airbag off which caused his computer to slam into his face breaking his nose, giving him two black eyes and possible additional facial trauma. The driver who hit him was extremely intoxicated, spitting on officers, cursing them, and fighting them. He was transported to the Montgomery County Jail. The section of Loop 494 at the bridge has been closed over a year after damage from floodwaters. Had the deputy not been parked there the driver would have slammed into the barricades and the large concrete column behind them.
