Early Sunday morning a DPS Trooper attempted to stop a 1999 white Ford Mustang near FM 1485 and I-69. The vehicle refused to pull over and threw a package out of the window, a pursuit ensued. Speeds reached 120 mph as they traveled south of SH 99 where a Precinct 4 unit joined in the chase. It continued south, Harris County, Houston, and Humble were all notified. As the chase crossed Beltway 8 a DPS Helicopter joined in from above. The chase continued south with the driver using the shoulder at a time to pass vehicles. As they approached 610 the driver west-east to Interstate 10 then west to Lyons Avenue where he ran a red light and went into residential streets. He wound through several streets. A check of his paper plates showed the vehicle which was now smoking and overheating came back to a Jerry Laird Jr. at 7425 Abilene Street. The chase continued through the Denver Harbor area of Houston. Laird finally turned west on Gonzales which was a dead-end. As he reached the dead-end he jumped out of the vehicle which was now smoking from overheating. He ran west over a footbridge where the Trooper tackled him and took him into custody. Laird was in possession of a small packet of meth. It was also discovered that Laird was arrested on June 10th at I-59 and Northpark by Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for possession of 30 grams of meth and an additional drug charge. He bonded out on a total of $18,000 in bonds on June 11, 2021, just sixteen days ago. On February 25, 2020, Deputy Beaty with Montgomery County Precinct 4 arrested Laird after another pursuit at which time he also had an open warrant for motion to revoke probation from Orange County, Texas. On March 4, 2020, less than a week later he plead guilty and was sentenced by Judge Michalk to forty-five days in the Montgomery County Jail. Then just two weeks later Judge Michalk signed a Throwdown Jail Order to release Laird immediately with time served due to the COVID pandemic. Laird also has an extensive record in Harris County.
