At 2:20 am Montgomery County dispatchers received a call for a crash at SH 105 East and Willis Waukegan Road. Units arrived to find a Ford truck had struck a tree. The driver was gone. A short time later a red pickup almost rear-ended a Montgomery County Deputy on SH 105 East just east near FM 1484. The deputy attempted to stop the driver but he accelerated. It was evident he was impaired the way he was driving. The driver turned down Crockett Martin Road and accelerated to close to 100 miles per hour. After crossing the railroad tracks at high speed the driver continued south toward FM 2090. Just after passing White Rock, the driver failed to negotiate a curve at that speed. After striking several highway signs he went into the ditch. One wheel sheared off striking a fence the truck then flopped over trapping the driver. Fire crews from Caney Creek and North Montgomery County Fire Department worked close to 30 minutes to free the driver. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition. As deputies worked the scene they learned that the white truck that crashed earlier was driven by the same male that was involved in the pursuit and crashed. It is under investigation as to how he acquired the second vehicle.
