On February 7, 2021, at approximately 8:04 p.m. Willis Police Department responded to a welfare check at IH 45 N and Calvary Rd. They arrived to find a 34-year-old male, sitting on the ledge of the overpass, stating that he was thinking about jumping off. Willis Police Department requested a Precinct 1 Mental Health (MH) / Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) deputy to respond to the scene to assist with this call. The MH / CIT deputy was able to negotiate with the individual in crisis and with the assistance of other law enforcement officers were successful in bringing this situation to a positive conclusion.
