DRUNK DRIVER HITS CONROE POLICE OFFICER

A Conroe Police Officer was struck by a suspected drunk driver while he directed traffic on the main lanes of IH-45 near Creighton Road. The female driver, Kayla Nicole Roberts, 32, of 1706 Moston Drive in Spring, was traveling north on the interstate when she drove upon a major crash scene Wednesday morning, at about 2:00 AM. Numerous emergency vehicles from the Police Department and Fire Department were on the main lanes directing traffic around the crash scene. Roberts disregarded all the emergency vehicles, driving into the crash scene. Roberts, who was driving a 2008 Dodge Caravan, struck a Conroe Police vehicle and an Officer as he directed traffic. The female suspect then left the scene of the crash and continue north on the interstate for less than a mile before her car became disabled. Officers made contact with Roberts and observed signs of intoxication. A DWI investigation ensued and probable cause was established to make an arrest. Roberts was detained and became uncooperative and combative with Officers. A blood search warrant was obtained and she was taken to HCA Hospital in Conroe. During the service of the search warrant, Roberts continued to be combative with Officers and hospital staff. After the search warrant was served the female suspect spit in the face of one of the Officers. She was medically cleared from the hospital and transported to the MCSO jail where she was released to jail staff. Roberts is being held on three charges; including DWI (M-B), Failure to Stop and Render Aid causing injury (felony), and Harassment of a Public Servant (F-3). The Officer was treated for minor leg injuries at a local hospital. This was only because he was able to jump out of the way of the vehicle to avoid direct impact. This incident, along with recent similar events, highlights the tragedies that occur when people drink and drive. Please Plan Ahead! Currently, Roberts is being held on a $20,000 bond for the failure to stop and render aid charge, a $10,000 bond for harassment of a public servant, and a $1500 bond for the DWI. This crash comes just days after another impaired driver slammed into two Oak Ridge patrol units and a Shenandoah patrol unit and almost hit several firefighters on the scene of a crash on I-45 at Woodlands Parkway.
