A cannon blast and the beat of a “friendship dance” kicked off the grand reopening of the Heritage Museum of Montgomery County on Saturday. The museum welcomed the public to a “Gathering of Nations” in celebration of Native American Heritage Month. The day featured activities, such as dancing, brief speeches and educational booths from members of the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas, including Second Chief Donnis B. Battise and Chief Kanicu Mikko Istimatokla, along with the Chikawa Aztec Dance and Traditions cultural group.
