A new plan to build no more than 30 homes on 23-acre Mitchell Island was approved by The Woodlands Township Development Standards Committee Wednesday night. Officials from the Howard Hughes Corp., which owns the island, first attempted to push through a plan at the Houston Planning Commission for 58 homes on the township’s only island, located off the west side of the East Shore neighborhood in Lake Woodlands. The island has sat vacant since its creation in 1986.
