FOOTBALL: Magnolia looking to sustain success

Following a pair of 5-5 seasons, Magnolia returned to the playoffs last year when Craig Martin took over as the head coach. The Bulldogs went 8-4 overall, and those four blemishes on their record came against elite competition. Magnolia fell to Class 5A Div. I champion Shadow Creek and perennial state contender Highland Park in non-district action. The team also dropped tight contests to district foes College Station and Lufkin, both playoff teams, by a combined 10 points.
