The Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are reporting that reducing the spread of respiratory illnesses this fall and winter is more important than ever. As the flu season begins, many health officials worry about the combination of influenza and COVID-19. “Influenza commonly known as the flu and COVID-19 are both contagious respiratory illnesses, but they are caused by different viruses,” said Christina Hagerty, Ed.D., LSC-CyFair dean, Public Service, Health & Behavioral Sciences. “Because some of the symptoms of flu and COVID-19 are similar, it may be hard to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone. One should visit a healthcare provider to confirm a diagnosis.”
