On September 1, 2020, a City of Splendora Police Department Day Shift Officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for Speeding at US Highway 59 North and FM 2090. Upon further investigation, John Mendez was found to be in possession of Methamphetamine. Mendez was subsequently arrested for Possession of Controlled Substance and transported to the Montgomery County Jail.
