Just before 11 pm, NMC Fire Department along with Conroe and Caney Creek was dispatched to a reported vehicle in a building on fire with the driver trapped. Units arrived on the scene and found a Chevrolet pickup on its side against the building but there was no fire. Even though the truck was on its side it was still running and the driver was attempting to accelerate. DPS arrived on the scene and took the driver who was intoxicated into custody. According to witnesses, the driver was eastbound on SH 105 from FM 1485 at a high rate of speed. Several witnesses said he almost rear-ended them but they were able to move out of the way. The driver then went to the shoulder, still at a high rate of speed. When he hit the edge of a driveway he lost control. He first struck a family in a Ford Explored returning to Diboll, Texas after a wedding. The Explorer and a vehicle that was traveling along with them crossed the westbound lanes. The truck continued until it hit the posts in front of the shopping center, rolled on its side, and shattered a Nail Salon window. There were no injuries. Tommy’s Wrecker from Conroe was tasked with removing the truck from the scene which was quite complicated as several of the parking lot posts had impaled the side of the truck. The driver was transported to the Montgomery County Jail.
