CONROE, Texas – As summer approaches, the Montgomery County Pct. 1 Constable’s office is urging boaters to prioritize safety on the water.Whether paddling in a kayak, canoe, or any vessel under 16 feet, it is crucial to have a wearable Personal Flotation Device (PFD) for everyone on board, according to the Montgomery County Pct. 1 Constable. For vessels over 16 feet, a throwable flotation device is also required in addition to the wearable ones.Children under the age of 13 must wear a US Coast Guard-approved PFD at all times while on vessels under 26 feet, stated the source. Additionally, those planning to paddle between sunset and sunrise must have a bright white light with 360-degree visibility on board. This requirement applies to all canoes, kayaks, and other manually powered vessels. In Texas, all motorized boats must have proper navigation lights from sunset to sunrise or during restricted visibility. This includes red and green sidelights visible from at least one mile away and an all-around white light (or masthead and stern light) visible from at least two miles away.”Stay safe and enjoy your time on the water,” emphasized the Montgomery County Pct. 1 Constable’s office.
