MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX — This week’s Veteran is one of the most beloved Veterans in Montgomery County, Michael John “Foy” Day. Foy is the current VFW Texas State Chaplain, and Post Commander of VFW Post 12223, in Montgomery. Day enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1985, and spent a career in management. He served in both Gulf Wars and has had numerous deployments. Foy joined the VFW following Operation Desert Storm while still stationed in Italy. He worked with many Flag Officers over his career, who saw his organizational skills as second to none, but that did not stop him from encountering danger. He volunteered many thousands of hours while in the Navy, and when Chief Day retired in 2018, he came back to Montgomery, and continued volunteering. Foy has since served over 35,000 hours volunteering. He has worked with the VFW from Post to National Levels. Day is an Ordained Minister. And he has more military medals than a Soviet General. He loves teaching Patriotism to school children, and making sure the needy kids get their toys at Christmas time with Toys for Tots. Foy is part of the leadership team with the The Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Commission. Good Luck Foy, and Congratulations on being ‘Veteran of the Week’.
