At 11:43 pm Wednesday Montgomery County Fire received a call from a truck driver with Sun Coast Fuels. The driver stated the cab of his truck was on fire and he pulled over near I-69 and SH 99 just north of the funeral home. He also stated he was hauling a tanker with 7000 gallons of gasoline and diesel. Porter Fire responded with multiple units. The first unit on the scene reported the tractor part of the truck was fully involved and encroaching on the tanker. Other trucks started to arrive and assist in fighting the blaze. Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office closed the northbound lanes of the freeway. Keeping the tank cool they were able to contain and extinguish the blaze before the tanker caught fire. HAZMAT teams are now on the scene as diesel fuel from the tractor’s tanks flowed into the ditch. At 3 am two left lanes were opened to traffic. The two right lanes will remain closed for approximately 8-12 hours as the scene is cleared.
