THE WOODLANDS, TX — The National Weather Service continues to monitor Tropical Storm Nicholas as the storm tracks north/northwest in the Gulf of Mexico. The exact track of Tropical Storm Nicholas remains uncertain but an anticipated landfall is expected near Matagorda Bay; an eastern track would mean more time over water which would allow the storm to strengthen while a westward track would mean greater rainfall potential further inland with weaker winds and less storm surge. The current lack of storm organization has made track forecast difficult. Tropical storm force winds will arrive in Galveston Bay around Monday evening. Tropical Storm watches and warnings are in effect for coastal areas.
