Thursday night was one of several nights that Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constable Phillip Cash has used some of the overtime money to make I-45 a safer highway for motorists of Montgomery County. Precinct 1 which encompasses Montgomery County north of SH 105 has many highways through it and also many crashes on these highways. Last week Constable Cash stopped a 14-year-old without a driver’s license in his parent’s vehicle doing in excess of 100 mph. While he was on the stop vehicles were driving by him at well over the speed limit. Tuesday night he put three deputies on I-45 using some of the overtime funding allotted him. The main reason was to make it safer. In 4-hours time deputies eighteen citations for everything from speed (most of which were 90mph plus). Seven warnings were issued and four vehicles were towed for not having a driver’s license or insurance. Many drivers southbound through Walker County where most of the highway is 75 never slow down once they come 65 mile per hour zone near the county line. Several drivers were stopped for failure to slow down and move over as officers were out on traffic stops on the roadside. There was also one citation issued for littering when a motorist threw a cigarette out the window which ended up in the grassy median.
