THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Firefighters from The Woodlands Fire Department responded to a chimney fire in the village of Panther Creek just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday. The blaze was quickly contained with minimal damage, according to the department.Engine 108 was the first to arrive at the scene on N. Wilde Yaupon, where a small fire was visible from the top of the chimney. Firefighters extinguished the fire in the fireplace while a second crew accessed the roof to put out the fire in the chimney cap. The Montgomery County Hospital District and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the operation.As colder weather approaches, the department advises residents to ensure their fireplaces are in good working order. They recommend keeping the flue open, burning only hardwoods like oak, and disposing of ashes safely in a metal bucket, allowing them to cool for at least 72 hours. “Stay safe and stay warm,” stated the department.
