When Isaac Martinez bought his first home in Montgomery County earlier this year, its tree-filled yard seemed like an asset. That quickly changed when two windstorms whipped through the Houston area. First came May’s derecho, which toppled old-growth trees along its destructive path, pulling down one of Martinez’ pine trees and yanking branches from others. Hurricane Beryl rushed through soon after, throwing its weight at wooded areas with wind speeds that topped 80 miles per hour.
