Mulch fire forces closures in Montgomery County

A large fire at a mulch yard Sunday just off Interstate 45 in Montgomery County covered local hospitals in smoke and closed the highway’s feeder road. The fire broke out at Living Earth Mulch, just south of State Highway 242, around 1 p.m. and spread to about 6,000 cubic yards of mulch. Firefighters tried to use three Conroe fire hydrants, but they were defective, according to the Montgomery County Police Reporter.
