FAMILY RESCUED FROM SINKING BOAT

Sunday morning Montgomery County Precinct 1 Lake Patrol received a call of an 18-foot pleasure craft sinking near the Jack N the Box on SH 105. Multiple units responded from ground and water. It was reported a man, his wife, and two children were aboard. All were reported to have life vests on. Units got to the area and were not able to locate it. After searching the area it was spotted close to the dam. When units arrived it had taken on quite a bit of water. The family had launched from Lakeview Marina. With the rescue boat next to them they powered up and to Lake view Marina. However, due to the weight of the water, the engine was not able to keep up and started smoking badly. All were put on the rescue boat which towed the boat to the marina. After pulling it from the water it was discovered the boat had been in storage through last year’s freeze. The family had taken the boat out of storage the day before to check its operation and didn’t notice any issues. What deputies discovered was the exhaust manifold had cracked allowing water to flood the engine compartment. Constables suggest if you had a boat that was stored in the winter freeze to please check for any freeze damage where water may have remained on the boat.
