FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE HOUSE FIRE WHICH WAS INTENTIONALLY SET

Just before 1:30 pm Caney Creek and NMC Fire were dispatched to a house fire on Frank Plunk Road off Waukegan Road. As Caney Creek firefighters pulled out of the station at FM 1485 and FM 2090 they were able to see the black column of smoke in the sky. When they arrived they found a brick home fully involved in fire. Additional trucks came in from NMC Fire. As firefighters were battling the blaze they learned that the property owner-Ameritex Pipe who owns close to 100 acres on the west side of Waukegan in addition to the concrete pipe company of theirs across the road was clearing the land for a new plant and set the fire to burn the house down so they could clear it from the property. The Montgomery County Fire Marshal was notified and will investigate as is TCEQ.
