Charles Hucke had a solid reason for getting into amateur radio — the fear of a large phone bill. In the mid-1990s his family was living in Cut and Shoot and his youngest daughter’s boyfriend was moving from The Woodlands to the Austin area. Hucke knew he didn’t want a $400 phone bill as the young couple stayed connected.
