A man recently charged in a 1983 cold case murder out of Montgomery County has died in custody, officials announced Wednesday afternoon. Thomas Elvin Darnell, 75, of Kansas City, Kan., died Monday of natural causes while in hospice care at the Montgomery County Jail, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
