Just after 9pm a Splendora officer on routine patrol witnessed a pickup come off southbound I-69 and turn west on FM 2090. When the driver spotted the officer he cut through the Valero parking lot, shot across the feeder to the southbound to northbound U-turn lane. The driver continued to the northbound feeder where the passenger threw some drugs and a magazine from a pistol out the window. The driver continued north to Fostoria Road where he made a u-turn and started south at speeds over 100 miles per hour. He continued south weaving in and out of traffic trying to lose the patrol units. As he approached FM 1485 he exited the freeway and tried to cut between two vehicles. He lost control ran of the road and launched across a 100 foot drainage canal. On the other side the vehicle began to flip and roll. Two Splendora officers immediately jumped out of their patrol cars rinning to the crash. Little did they know the water in the canal was just over 4-fet as both officers went under. they continued across and were able to take the male into custody as he tried to get up. It was at that point a woman started to scream her baby. Officers found an unsecured baby seat in the back seat with a small 7-month old baby in it. The child or the 16-year-old mother were uninjured. THe male was identified as 18-year-old Jose Aragon of Missouri City. He was taken to Kingwood Hospital for treatment and transported to the Montgomery County jail just before 3 am. He is charged with evading arrest and possession of controlled substance, two counts of injury to a child, (16-year-old and 7 -month-old). He also has open warrants from Fort Bend County for evading arrest with a motor vehicle and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. THe 16-year-old mother is charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidenct (throwing the magazine and drugs out the window). She was taken to Montgomery County Juvenile. Child Protective Services was notfied of the situation and the baby. If thee child seat had come out of the vehicle or it landed in the water the baby may not have survived.
