EMERGENCY REPAIRS COMPLETE ON OLD HOUSTON

Early Sunday evening Montgomery County Precinct 4 Commissioner Metts was alerted to several vehicles hitting a large hole in the roadway on Old Houston Road between Village Way and SH 242. Commissioner Metts responded to the scene and found an area of roadway that floods. Vehicles going around the water had broken the shoulder down and the edge of the asphalt. Old Houston Road was closed as he called in a truckload of asphalt and equipment to make temporary repairs. It took about 2-hours to complete. Crews will be returning Tuesday to determine what can be done. Since the new subdivision was built to the west of Old Houston and a landowner backfilled his property to the East of Old Houston it has turned into a constant problem. The ditches were dug longer and deeper which allowed some retention but for the water to flow in the ditches south where it needs to go a natural gas pipeline runs under the roadway and prevents the ditch from being dug deeper. In addition since to the east is private land where the water flowed to a natural waterway the county can not cross it. Metts and Engineers will be out Tuesday to work on a solution. In the meantime, the holes were filled and the shoulder rebuilt. Barricades and cones are now in place.
