Jean Spillman: What happened to the strong family unit?

I, like millions of others, sat and watched the Oprah interview she had with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex: Prince Harry and his wife Meghan. I am not necessarily proud of that fact because I am not sure what good comes of tearing down a family be it the Queen of England’s or anybody else’s for that matter. I know nothing about the British monarchy or how they do things, but I know a great deal about mothers and grandmothers and families. This had to hurt. I am sure marrying into a royal family must be difficult but trashing it in front of the whole world is not entirely helpful. I am of the mind that unless some crime has been committed or there is some kind of abuse or neglect, airing family “dirty laundry” with the whole world serves no purpose. Family feuds should remain within the family. I am not sure what good comes from such airings other than hurting those we profess to love. Yes, they issued a disclaimer saying the Queen had no part in making racial statements, but we can imagine the pain she must feel to have her children, grandchildren and the whole family discussed. What purpose does it serve? Playing the race card is worst of all because everyone is suspect and after accusations such as these, it is next to impossible for a family to heal.
