There comes a time or two (or more) in the lives of most Rotarians when we think “I love Rotary but I just can’t do this anymore.” “This” might be the day of the week or the time of the day when the club meets; it might be the distance the member has to drive to get to a meeting. When I lived in Willis, it was a 45-minute drive in the dark to get to The Rotary Club of Lake Conroe’s 6:30 a.m. breakfast meeting at Walden Yacht Club – I was always thrilled once I was there and enjoyed the fellowship so much, but gees, it was a bugger to get there. Perhaps there’s been a change of circumstances in a member’s life. I have two friends who were just the best Rotarians any club could ask for. Both had to leave their beloved clubs – one had an automobile accident that left him in a wheelchair, and the other has an illness that affects his physicality. Both now rely on their wives to drive them, and a weekly Rotary meeting is just a bit outside of the scope of what one wants to ask of the spouse. And of course, now we have a pandemic and it could be awhile before lots of us are comfortable out and about in a crowd. Enter the about-to-be-formed Rotary District 5910 E-Club to the rescue!
