As an entrepreneur living in Montgomery, Texas, Mike Cotton has always had his ears tuned to the local community, searching for problems to solve. After hearing about a need for piano tuning services in other areas, he researched his own community and found that there seemed to be a lack of piano tuners in the Montgomery County area.
Having been playing piano since he was 9 and wanting to find something that he could do on the side, he turned his attention toward learning how to tune pianos.
“Piano tuning has changed a lot over the years. With all the new technological advances that have been made, you don’t have to have ‘perfect pitch’ to be a tuner anymore. But there seems to be a lack of piano tuners in Montgomery County that I can find and I know that this area is growing like mad”, Mike comments. “The old school way of tuning pianos is not necessarily gone, but it is slowly going away. Now, there are apps that help. Not that you don’t have to have skill and experience, but you certainly don’t need to know how to listen for ‘beats’ and measure ‘inharmonicity’ manually anymore.”
Mike decided to name his company after a beagle that he had owned when he and his wife had just gotten married. “Maestro was a great dog and I figured it’d be a great way to keep being reminded of him.”
Until March 1, 2021, Maestro Piano Tuning is offering a basic piano tuning for only $100. They currently service an area within 15 miles of Montgomery, Texas, where Mike is located. This would include Montgomery, Conroe, Willis and much of Magnolia.
