The Texian’s victory against Mexican forces at the Battle of San Jacinto, April 21, 1836, was one of the most far-reaching victories in world history. It led to the US-Mexican War of 1846-48 which, in turn, led to the United States procuring essentially the whole southwest quadrant of its territory. Odds are, none of this would have occurred had not the leader of the Mexican forces at San Jacinto, the dictator Santa Anna, suffered captivity after the main battle.
