On Fathers Day Houston Police Sgt. Alturo “Hito” Bazan began showing symptoms of COVID. His wife Sheryle, a nurse, took care of him for almost a week before he was sent to HCA Conroe Hospital. There he remained on a ventilator for a week. It was then decided to move him to another hospital. He was flown to Memorial Hermann Woodlands. There he remained and was placed on an ECMO system. It is a device that puts oxygen in the blood and removes carbon dioxide. His family, wife, and three children were able to visit through ZOOM even though Hito was sedated they knew he could hear them. His good friend Steve Hurd with the Conroe Police Department said he was as healthy as he was and had no underlying symptoms. When he was finally taken off sedation the first thing he asked was what day it was, then about his family and then his dog. Doctors told the family that for every day in ICU it requires about a week of rehab. He was then sent to Cornerstone. Thursday afternoon with his medical team from Hermann Hospital in attendance and members of the Conroe Police Department present he walked out of Cornerstone under his own power. He then got into his vehicle and with a Conroe Police escort went home.
